How to Submit a Manuscript

The Afton Historical Society Press is committed to publishing fine quality books in the areas of historic architecture, early Midwestern life, Native American history and classic Midwestern art, fiction and timeless mysteries.  Each year we publish a limited number of books.  By focusing our efforts on the best projects and working closely with each of our authors we have been able to consistently publish award-winning books.  Each book published is of exceptional quality and accompanied by a complete marketing and promotion plan.

What are we looking for:

We welcome proposals that fit into our existing subjects.  The best manuscripts have a compelling message with engaging text that captures the reader. Many of our books are filled with inspiring photographs and illustrations; please include examples of available unpublished photographs or illustrations for your manuscript.

Your submission should include:

  •  A brief cover letter or resume outlining your qualifications for this project

  •  A summary of your proposal highlighting its unique aspects

  •  Proposed target audience for this book

  •  A list of funding possibilities

  •  First chapter and book outline, sample illustrations or photographs

Do not send original materials.  Do not submit the entire manuscript unless it is fiction.  All materials should be copies of the original, photo’s and illustrations.  Copies should be of high enough quality to fairly evaluate your work. The Afton Historical Society Press cannot be responsible for any unsolicited material.  We will not return any unsolicited material without a self addressed and stamped envelope.
